Lets talk about literally anything other than work. The weather, the world, life itself. Give me a deep conversation about bagel toppings over job titles any day of the week.
A good bagel is very important. As is the kind/amount of cream cheese applied to said bagel. And is it toasted? Such a more meaningful conversation than what’s going on with work.
I once knew someone who scooped the insides out of the bagel and stuffed the two hollow halves full with avocado. I didn't even know that was an option.
They are. And thanks for asking. It’s mostly better, though I’ll still get hit with an occasional spell after sleeping. I believe a good ol’ fashion ear cleaning should address the problem. Hopefully.
This would be a good time to read (or listen to!) THE LITTLE PRINCE. Author « St. Ex » as he is affectionately called has such beautiful ways to describe what really matters. And no, it’s not really a « children’s book »—that just a safe cover.
. In an early chapter he critiques those who define the beauty of a house by how many rooms and baths it has, instead of asking about the flowers and butterflies, for instance. And the chapter about the fox is ICONIC.
I'll admit I haven't read that, but it sounds like something I'd like. I love the idea of asking about the flowers and butterflies. I think the next time someone buys a house I'll throw them for a loop and ask about butterflies.
The other key idea is that « what is essential is invisible…one must seek with the heart. ». Given what you wrote in your piece, I think it would really resonate with you. It’s not very long, either. Hope you’re feeling better !
Nice write up. I hope you enjoyed the wedding and seeing your friend though!
Regarding what you "do" and what you "own", in my opinion they are indicators for empty or shallow people. Those who worry about defining themselves throught criteria exterior to them. As opposed to defining the selves through their inside, their values, their ability to love and be loved, the ability of gratitude....
It's a lot easier becoming a slave to the first. Strangely enough though some people really dismiss the first and can't make sense of it. They (we) are usually more self aware souls with all that it encompasses. But it makes sense to us.
And let's be honest: there some kind of feeling of "moral superiority" that clouds over those mundane comparisons... 😅

Boomers are the best to sit with at weddings/social events! How is your vertigo now?
