Have you ever seen someone sitting at a restaurant, eating and drinking alone? I’m going to guess you have.
What was your first thought?
That they were brave to be eating dinner by themselves? That you could never do something like that? Maybe you even felt bad for them.
I’m not sure when this happened, but there’s an odd stigma surrounding eating alone. Perhaps stigma isn’t the right word. After all, we’re not talking about mental health. Or are we?
Eating alone is a way of life for me at this point. Yes, there are certain days, namely around the holidays, when I feel bad. But going to a restaurant, eating alone at any other point of the year, is entirely different.
It’s a worthwhile experience and it’s one you should try (if you haven’t already). You can go to whatever restaurant you want, eat whatever you want, drink what you’d like, avoid waiting around for friends who may or may not flake on you at the last minute and, believe it or not, the food might taste better.
I’m not saying you’re going to learn something truly revealing about yourself by sitting at a restaurant on your own, but I am saying it’s worth getting past that mindset of solo-dining is bad.
Because when you treat yourself to a date for one, everything you do is right. Which means going by yourself can’t possibly be wrong.
